Galleries and visitors in Sisters
Sisters is known as an arts town. This page describes that as a category, from the city and the area chamber, and leaves out individual galleries and businesses.
The arts scene
The Sisters Country site says the town is "proud of its reputation as an arts community," with many galleries showing a range of media including fiber art and clay, a growing collection of public art, and concerts in many genres through the year. The City of Sisters keeps an Arts and Culture page and a Public Art page, and lists installed works such as sculptures, murals and quilts at City Hall, Barclay Park and Creekside Park. The city's fiscal year 2024/25 council goals include exploring a public arts program. SFF Presents, a local nonprofit, runs the Sisters Folk Festival and year-round arts classes.
Visiting and second-home owners
Sisters draws visitors for the rodeo, the quilt show, the folk festival and the national forest. The Sisters Country site lists lodging from cabins and campgrounds to resorts.
The Census shows how many homes here are not lived in year-round. In the 2020-2024 American Community Survey, 170 of Sisters' 1,591 housing units, 10.7 percent, are held for seasonal, recreational or occasional use. The margin of error is about 113, so the true count could be much lower or higher. For comparison, Redmond's share is about 1 percent. The survey does not say who owns those homes or where they live.
Visitors and second-home owners should check the Forest Service conditions page for fire and road status, and the Sisters Country events page for current dates.
